Shop the Kris Kringle Christmas Market

Modeled after the famed German markets, the Kris Kringle Christmas Market is the place to shop for unique gifts and meet your neighbors. The event takes place Friday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata.

The market will feature local handmade and homegrown vendors as well as small and home businesses. There will also be a light display, live nativity, music and entertainment, and more. Don’t miss the tree lighting and Santa’s arrival at 5 p.m. on Friday night!

Cost is $1 or a non-perishable food donation for the Southern Maryland Food Pantry. For more information, visit http://www.charlescountyfair.com/kriskringle.html.

Take a Cold Swim for a Good Cause

What’s a good reason to jump into the Patuxent River in December?

The Special Olympics!

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual St. Mary’s Splash on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Point Lookout State Park. This fun family event is open to all residents of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. Proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics.

Participants will jump into the freezing Patuxent River. Last year, more than $30,000 was raised for Special Olympics!

Registration is open now. To participate, grab some friends or coworkers and create a team, then go to www.stmaryssplash.com to register. For a minimum donation of $75, receive a St. Mary’s Splash sweatshirt and join in the fun. Creativity is encouraged—especially in costumes!
