Southern Maryland’s status as a wine region is well established, but in the last few years, the locally made libations made in Southern Maryland have expanded to include breweries and even a distillery!

Breweries
Calvert Brewing Company: Calvert Brewing Company is the first designated farm brewery in Maryland, with a small farm brewing system at the Running Hare Vineyard in Prince Frederick. The vineyard is also home to Calvert Brewing’s beer garden. Mully’s Brewery: Making beer in Prince Frederick since 2013, Mully’s takes its name from owners Jason and Cindy Mulligan, self-described “beer nerds” who turned their homebrew hobby into an award-winning production brewery. Scorpion Brewing Company: Since October 2014, Scorpion Brewing has been making beer in Owings. Named for the Scorpion, the flagship of a flotilla that fought the British in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries during the War of 1812. Distillery
BlueDyer Distilling Company: Distilling is part of the family history of BlueDyer Distilling. Named for the “blue diers” who created fabric dyes – and often did a little distilling on the side – the distillery produces rum and whiskey at its Waldorf facility. Fun fact: The distillery is owned by a current cop and a recently retired cop who retired to run the distillery! You can stop by on Saturdays and Sundays to taste and learn more.
