July Arrives with a Full Calendar of Southern Maryland Events

It’s the first weekend of July, and Southern Maryland is hopping with pre-Independence Day events! Check out these three events happening this weekend, June 30-July 2, 2017.

Visit the Home of Charles County’s Own Signer of the Declaration of Independence

How will you mark Independence Day?

The National Park Service invites you to learn the secrets of the Declaration of Independence at the home of Thomas Stone, one of Maryland’s signers. The event will take place Thursday, June 29, through Sunday, July 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The park is located at 6655 Rose Hill Road in Port Tobacco.

Activities include:

  • Free tours of Thomas Stone’s house are normally given on demand.
  • Watch a film and explore the exhibits in the Visitor Center.
  • Hike over two miles of trails through forests and fields, while passing historic plantation buildings and the Stone Family Cemetery.
  • Complete an assortment of Junior Ranger activities to earn badges, certificates, and other prizes.
  • Collect seven different National Park Passport Stamps.
  • Purchase books and souvenirs in the gift shop.

Celebrate the Beach at Sea Glass Market!

It’s all things beach at the July Maker’s Market!

Annmarie Garden Sculpture Garden and Arts Center’s Sea Glass and Beach Crafts Beach Maker’s Market will take place Saturday, July 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the arts center at 13480 Dowell Road in Dowell. Admission to the market is free.

Food Truck Corral Benefits Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad

The Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad will host its last food truck corral of the season on Saturday, July 1, from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot at Mechanicsville Elementary School, 28585 Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville.

Food trucks from throughout Southern Maryland will have delicious food for sale, and your purchase will support the rescue squad. Enjoy entertainment while you eat!
