Three festivals are on the calendar, and whether you’re into music, carnival fun, or flying a kite, you’ll find something fun to do this weekend, Aug. 11-13, 2017.
Old Time Music Festival Heats Up St. Mary’s Farm
It’s that time of year again: Time for bluegrass and old-time music to waft through the air in Leonardtown.
The 29th L’il Margaret’s Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival will take place Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug 12, at Goddard Farm in Leonardtown. The farm is located on Clay Hill Road off of Fairground Road. Gates open Thursday, Aug. 8, for earlybird campers.
The music begins at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, and at noon on Saturday, Aug. 12.
The weekend’s lineup includes Flatt Lonesome; Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road; David Parmley & Cardinal Tradition; Mickey Galyean and Cullen’s Bridge; Randall Hibbitts and Appalachia; Chris Henry and the Hardcore Grass; The Tyler Williams Band; The Feinberg Brothers; and The Northern Connection Bluegrass Band.
The concert takes place under a permanent pavilion and is rain or shine. Bring your lawn chairs and be prepared for two days of great music! Home-cooked food, ice cream, and non-alcoholic beverages will be for sale on site. There is plenty of parking and 24-hour security.
Two-day tickets cost $55 per person at the gate. Single-day tickets are $30 each. Under 12 are admitted free with a paid adult.
On-site camping is also available! Sites with electric and water are $30 per day; rough sites are $20. A dump station is available for $5. Sites are paid at the gate, but to reserve a specific site, call 301-475-8191.

Fun for the Whole Family at Prince Frederick Firefighters’ Carnival
Come one, come all to the carnival!
The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department will host its Fireman’s Carnival Tuesday, Aug. 8, through Saturday, Aug. 12. The carnival will take place at the Old Calvert Middle School, Route 2/4 and Darnes Beach Road in Prince Frederick.
Carnival hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; and 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Go Fly a Kite at Solomons Kite Day
Join the Calvert Marine Museum and Wings Over Washington for a soaring good time!
The Solomons Island Kite Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the field across from the Calvert Marine Museum. Bring your own kite or make one at the museum! Kite kits will be on sale for $5 each (cash only).
The kite festival is free and open to the public. Admission applies to visit the museum.
