These 5 Family Friendly Holiday Events are Southern Maryland Traditions!

So much is happening in Southern Maryland during the holidays, from plays and concerts to crafts shows and breakfasts with Santa. But there are some events in Southern Maryland that happen every December, and over the years, they’ve become traditions for locals.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family, check out these five kid-friendly events happening in December in Southern Maryland.

Garden in Lights, Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center

The gardens at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center will be lit up all December long with one-of-a-kind light sculptures made at the garden! Play a holiday “I Spy” game while you stroll the gardens; enjoy live entertainment; and shop the gift shop, ornament show and sale, and pop-up shops.

When: Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2018; 6 to 9 p.m. most nights. (See website for schedule.)

Where: Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, 13480 Dowell Road in Dowell

Cost: $6 for everyone age 4 and up; free for members and children age 3 and younger

Victorian Christmas, Dr. Mudd House Museum

Tour the historic home of Dr. Samuel Mudd decorated for a Victorian Christmas! There will also be music and refreshments, a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and Civil War soldiers. This is the 16th year the museum has hosted its Victorian Christmas event.

When: Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: The Dr. Mudd House Museum, 3725 Dr. Samuel Mudd Road in Waldorf

Cost: $8 adults, $3 for children

Kris Kringle Market, Charles County Fairgrounds

Styled after the famous German holiday markets, the Kris Kringle Markets returns for its fifth year at the Charles County Fairgrounds. Get some Christmas shopping done, enjoy live music and light displays, kids’ activities, and great food.

When: Friday, Dec. 8, 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Charles County Fairgrounds, 8440 Fairground Road in La Plata

Cost: $1 or a non-perishable food donation for the Southern Maryland Food Pantry

Home for the Holidays, Sotterley Plantation

Sotterley Plantation will be decorated for the holidays, and you’re invited to celebrate the season at the museum’s Home for the Holidays event. Tour the decorated home and gardens, watch live demonstrations, shop the gift shop and craft vendors, and join carolers for a song. For an additional fee, you can have breakfast or lunch with Santa!

When: Saturday, Dec. 9, and Sunday, Dec. 10; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Sotterley Plantation, 44300 Sotterley Lane in Hollywood

Cost: $8 per person, free for children younger than 2

Winter’s Eve, National Colonial Farm

The National Colonial Farm will be lit by candles for this serene holiday event. Stroll the grounds, enjoy live music, shop the gift shop or make your own festive wreath!

When: Saturday, Dec. 9, 4 to 8 p.m.
