In the mood for holiday cheer? Whether you want to browse for gifts or be entertained, there’s something happening for you in Southern Maryland this weekend! Check out this three events happening this weekend, Dec. 9-10, 2017.

Experience a Renaissance Christmas

Go back in time for a concert of holiday favorites this weekend!

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society will present “A Renaissance Christmas” several times this weekend at Peace Lutheran Church, 401 E. Smallwood Dr. in Waldorf.

The choral society will perform well-known classic carols and a few modern carols in period dress. The group’s Procession of the Court into the banquet hall with “Masters in This Hall” will transport you to the world of Elizabeth I.

Four concerts are planned for this weekend:

Thursday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m.: A benefit concert for the church’s food pantry. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, 6:30 p.m.: Enjoy a three-course meal and concert. Tickets for these events must be reserved in advance at http://www.chesapeakechoral.com/. Cost is $40 for adults and $35 for seniors, students, or military.

Sunday, Dec. 10, 3:30 p.m.: A concert followed by a dessert reception. Cos tis $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, students, or military.

Shop a German Christmas Market in La Plata

German holiday markets are famous for their food and shopping, and this weekend, that experience comes to Southern Maryland!

The fifth annual Kris Kringle Christmas Market takes place all weekend long at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata. Styled after the famous German holiday markets, the event features great shopping from local vendors and artisans, live music and light displays, kids’ activities, and great food!

The market is open Friday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $1 per person or a non-perishable food donation for the Southern Maryland Food Pantry.

Make A Lighthouse – From Gingerbread!

When is a Southern Maryland lighthouse delicious? When it’s made of gingerbread, of course!

The Calvert Marine Museum will host a Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshop on Sundays, Dec. 10 and 17, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants will build their own gingerbread lighthouse and keeper’s cottage! This workshop is designed for kids age 4 to 10; cost is $4 per child with museum admission.
