There’s so much to love about fall in Southern Maryland! Take the kids – and your pets – out for some fun this weekend. Here are just three of the events happening in Southern Maryland this weekend, Oct. 18-20, 2019.

Dance and Scare at Halloween Family Dance

It’s spooky fun for the whole family!

The Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary will host its first annual Halloween Family Dance and Costume Contest on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will take place at the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, 23469 Rescue Lane in Hollywood.

Cost is $5 per person and includes two slices of pizza and soft drinks or juice. Enter the costume contest! Prizes will be awarded to kids for the most creative, scariest, and cutest Halloween costumes.

Celebrate Halloween with Your Dog at Tails on Trails

Even pets love Halloween!

The Accokeek Foundation will host Tails on Trails on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Piscataway Park, 3400 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek.

This is the fall day on the farm your pup has always dreamed of. You and your dog can partake in classic fall activities like hayrides, trick-or-treating, and snacking on pumpkin-flavored everything. Tails on Trails also features a canine costume contest, so make sure Fido comes dressed to impress!

Cost is $5 per dog; humans get in free! The first 40 dogs to register receive Stella & Chewy treat samples.

Big Hat Brunch Benefits Gals Lead Program

Don your biggest hat and get dolled up – it’s time for the Big Hat Brunch!

The Dream Queen Foundation will host its largest themed Dream Queen fundraising event, the Big Hat Brunch, on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will take place at Running Hare Vineyard, Adelina Road in Prince Frederick.

The goal of the event is to raise $30,000 to support the foundation’s signature teen program, Gals Lead. The program helps girls develop and cultivate their self-confidence, authenticity, and leadership potential.
Over the past five years, Gals Lead has worked directly with 250 local girls and has programs at Great Mills High School, Chopticon High School, and Westlake High School. A new program is launching this year at Leonardtown High School.

This family-friendly fundraiser features a magic show, photo booth, silent auction, and more. Tickets are $65 for adults and $35 for kids age 4-10. Sponsorships are also available.
