No fooling: It’s spring in Southern Maryland! I don’t know about you, but when I flip the calendar to April, I know for sure that those chilly days are behind us. Want to welcome a new month in Southern Maryland? Check out these three events happening in the region this weekend, April 5-7, 2019.

Annual Expo Focuses on Women’s Health

Got questions about women’s health? Find answers at the Sixth Annual Best Women’s Health Care Expo!

The event will take place Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the College of Southern Maryland’s Prince Frederick Campus. The event will take place in Building B, which is located at 115 JW Williams Road in Prince Frederick.

The expo features 40 free health screenings, vaccinations, and exhibits, including blood pressure and hearing exams and skin cancer, breast, and dental screenings. There will also be cooking demonstrations, beginning fitness and dance demos, massage, yoga, and discussions of hot health care topics.

The event is sponsored by CalvertHealth Medical Center, the Calvert County Health Department, and the Calvert County Commission for Women.

Have a Latte with the Lambs!

Have you ever wanted have a coffee with a sheep?

You’ll have your chance this weekend at the Accokeek Foundation’s Lattes with Lambs event!

This fun family event will take place Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Colonial Farm, 3400 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, foundation members, and active military.

You’ll meet the farm’s new baby lambs and calves while enjoying coffee and donuts! There will also be demonstrations of sheep shearing, milking, and wool spinning. The 4-H will present a livestock snow, and everyone’s
favorite Hog Island Sheep, Sir Nigel, will make a special announcement! Enjoy music by the Broad Run String Band and activities for the whole family.

All activities are included in the price of ticket. Food and beverages are available at an additional cost. Proceeds from this event support the care and conservation of the Accokeek Foundation’s heritage livestock.

Celebrate Spring at the Easter Egg Festival

What’s a sure sign of spring? Easter eggs!

The 36th Annual Easter Egg Festival will take place Saturday, April 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. Admission is $5 per person. The event is rain or shine.

There will be egg hunts for all ages up to 12, photos with the Easter Bunny, live entertainment, free arts and crafts activities, an egg decorating contest, face painting, and local vendors.

The admission fee includes the egg hunt, a photo with Mr. or Mrs. Bunny, recreational activities, and free face painting and crafts. Other activities are available for an additional fee. Food and beverages will be
available for purchase.

To purchase tickets in advance, visit the Recreation & Parks Office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The office is located at 23150 Leonard Hall Dr. in Leonardtown.

Proceeds from the Easter Festival, along with the Scott Verbic Memorial Golf Tournament, are used to fund the Recreation & Parks Scholarship program, which provides qualified individual applicants the opportunity to participate in an activity at a 50 percent prorated amount of the registration fee.
