Can You Sell Your Southern Maryland Home During the Holidays?

At first blush, putting (or keeping) your Southern Maryland home on the market this time of year might seem like a hassle. The holidays are busy, from parties and dinners to decorating to gift wrapping; keeping the house tidy for showings on top of it all can seem like it’s not worth the effort.

But consider this gem from Southern Living: “[A] house that’s not on the market isn’t going to sell.”

Makes sense, right? The magazine continues to point out several reasons to leave your home on the market during the holidays. The first one? Not everyone is waiting for spring to buy. Some families would prefer to shop while their kids are on holiday break in December, while others search in November and December hoping to buy before the new year.

You’ll also find a more serious type of buyer this time of year. Who goes touring homes “just to look” while it’s cold and snowy outside? The only buyers who venture out this time of year are the ones who are really looking to buy a Southern Maryland home now.

Plus, Southern Living adds, the holidays give your home an ambiance and warmth that will appeal to buyers. The smells and sights of Christmas and Hanukkah are welcoming and cozy. Add the smell of fresh cookies or mulled cider, and your home just may end up at the top of someone’s wish list.
