It’s going to be a great weekend to get out and about in Southern Maryland! Mark the last weekend before many kids go back to school with one of these fun events.
See Roller Derby in Waldorf!
The action will be fast-paced when Southern Maryland Roller Derby takes on Northern Virginia Roller Derby!
The two teams will compete in a bout on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the whistle blows at 1 p.m.!
Bring a blanket or chair and cheer on the home team! Cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Kids under 12 are free.
A 50/50 raffle will be drawn to support the Southern Maryland Center for Family Advocacy in its mission to help the survivors of domestic violence. There will also be a fun halftime activity, vendors, and concessions.

Solomons Island Celebrates Dragon Boat Festival
Southern Maryland Community Resources (SMCR) will host the 2016 Solomons Island Dragon Boat Festival this weekend, Friday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, Aug. 27, along the Solomons Island Riverwalk. Opening ceremonies begin Friday at 4 p.m.
This free, family friendly two-day event includes Dragon Boat Races, an Opening Ceremony with a Blessing of the Boats, Parade of the Teams, live bands, martial arts demonstrations, marketplace and food vendors, dragon/lion dance parade, Wellness Village, Hospitality Tent, and a free parking shuttle on Saturday.
Dragon Boat Racing has become one of the fastest growing team water sports events! Dragon Boat Teams consist of 16 paddlers, a drummer and (a trained steer person, provided by 22Dragons staff). Teams are made up of cohorts from local business organizations, families, sporting groups, and any other group that wishes to participate, have fun day, and help raise funds for an excellent cause. All necessary racing equipment (paddles, boat, life jackets) will be provided.

Meet Up with CSM Alumni and Friends at the Ballpark
Calling all CSM alumni, students, and friends!
The College of Southern Maryland will have a Night Out at the Ballpark on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.
Mix, mingle and network with CSM alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students at the stadium’s picnic area before and during the game. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the game begins at 7:05 p.m.
There will be an all-you-can eat picnic buffet with raffles, prizes, games and more while cheering on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs against the Sugar Land Skeeters. The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will include a Salute to the Troops that evening.
