Tall Ship Kalmar Nyckel Stops in Solomons Island

Ever wanted to sail and work on a tall ship? You’ll have the chance this weekend!

The Kalmar Nyckel, the tall ship of Delaware, will be in Solomons Island from Thursday, June 14, through Sunday, June 17. The shop is a re-creation of the first colonial Swedish settlement ship to arrive in American in 1638. The Kalmar Nyckel measures 141 feet long and has a 25-foot beam and will travel about 3,000 nautical miles this season.

Two types of sails are available while the ship visits Solomons: Day sails and pirate sails. During the day sails, passengers can work alongside the crew while enjoying the views of Solomons Island. During pirate sails, the ship is transformed into a pirate vessel, complete with costumes, scavenger hunts, and pirate tales.

To learn more about tour times and to purchase tickets, visit http://kalmarnyckel.org/BookASail.asp or call 302-429-7447.
