063016-fireworks-01Independence Day is fast approaching – have you made your fireworks plans yet? See the bombs bursting in air at one of these great fireworks displays in Southern Maryland this weekend. Be sure to double check the dates – there are fireworks shows happening all weekend!

Calvert County

Fireworks Over the Bay, Chesapeake Beach

When: Friday, July 1, 7 to 10 p.m.

Celebrate the Fourth along the Chesapeake Beach waterfront! The town’s Fireworks Over the Bay is a free community event that includes fireworks launched from barges on the Bay. Arrive early for easy parking. Rain date: Sunday, July 3.

Solomons Island Fireworks

When: Monday, July 4; Fireworks at approximately 9:15 to 9:30 p.m.

View the fireworks from the Solomons Riverwalk! The fireworks will be shot from a barge in the Patuxent River. Before the fireworks, enjoy activities throughout town sponsored by individuals and businesses. A parade of decorated boats begins at noon.

Charles County

Town of Indian Head Fourth of July Celebration

When: Monday, July 4; Fireworks at approximately 9:10 p.m.

Mark the Fourth of July on the Village Green with amusement park rides, food, and ive music! The festival begins at 3:30 p.m., culminating in a fireworks show at dusk.

La Plata Fireworks

When: Monday, July 4; Fireworks at dusk

The Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata open for Fourth of July Fun! Admission is free. Enjoy entertainment, pony rides, food, and novelty vendors. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin shortly after dark.

Celebrate Charles! A Fun-Filled Fourth, Waldorf

When: Monday, July 4; Fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The fireworks at the Regency Furniture Stadium cap off a fun day called “Celebrate Charles! A Fun-Fulled Fourth.” The day includes local artisan and craft booths, food, the Family Fun Zone, and a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game.

The festival begins at 4:30 p.m., and the fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Admission to Celebrate Charles! is free, but there is a charge for Family Fun Zone wristbands, food, and marketplace purchases. A ticket is required to enter the stadium for the baseball game.

Smallwood Village Fireworks, Waldorf

When: Monday, July 4; Fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Watch fireworks launched from Benjamin Stoddert Middle School. View from the banks of Post Office Lake or the parking lot of the Smallwood Village Center.

St. Mary’s County

River Concert Series Fireworks

When: Friday, July 1, 7 to 10 p.m.

This Fourth of July-themed River Concert celebrates all things brass! The Chesapeake Orchestra will play the music of Sousa, Filmore, Clarke, Anderson, Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Prince, James Brown, and more! On the lawn at St. Mary’s College in St. Mary’s City. Fireworks close the show.

Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Independence Day Celebration

When: Saturday, July 2, 5 to 10 p.m.

Join the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department for its 8th Annual Independence Day Celebration! Before the fireworks are launched at dusk, you can enjoy carnival rides, games, and food and drinks. Live entertainment will be provided by Robbie Boothe.

Country Life Festival Fireworks, Leonardtown

When: Saturday, July 2; Fireworks at 9 p.m.

Fireworks end the second day of the Country Life Festival, which is taking place all weekend at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown.

Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the fireworks will begin around 9 p.m. During the day, you’ll experience a one-of-a-kind event! Take part in a cornhole tournament, wing- and watermelon-eating contests, see the Ultimate Air Dog Show, sample craft and domestic brews, duck and goose calling competition, chainsaw carving, live music during the whole festival, and kids’ activites.

Admission is $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for kids age 5-12. Kids under 5 are free.
