The stores might be promoting back to school, but summer’s not over yet! Check out just three of the events happening in Southern Maryland this weekend, Aug. 9-11, 2019.

Relive Woodstock and the 1960s at the Library

It’s been 50 years since Woodstock, but the music of the 1960s is still popular today! Discuss the iconic music festival, listen to some of the music, and share memories with the Calvert Library this weekend!

The Calvert Library’s Twin Beaches Branch will host “Memories of Woodstock and ‘60s Music” on Friday, Aug. 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Twin Beaches Branch is located at 3819 Harbor Road in Chesapeake Beach.

Author Mark R. Millikin will also be on hand to discuss his newest book, The Joy and Heartache of Our 1960s Music. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Poker Run Benefits Charlotte Hall Veterans Home

Enjoy a day on your motorcycle for a great cause!

The 7th Annual Charlotte Hall Veterans Home Poker Run will take place Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Signup between 11 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. at the veterans home, which is located at 29449 Charlotte Hall Road in Charlotte Hall. Cost is $20 donation per person.

The event is sponsored by the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Southern Maryland. Proceeds from the poker run will be used to purchase items requested for the residents of the home.

Riders will enjoy great stops, tasty food, fantastic prizes, and exciting raffles. Cash prizes will be given to the top three best hands and
to the worst hand. There will be free food (while it lasts) and a cash bar at the last stop.

See Shakespeare in Historic St. Mary’s City

Enjoy Shakespeare in a unique and historic setting!

Historic St. Mary’s City and The Newtowne Players present William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” on the lawn of the State House at Historic St. Mary’s City, 47418 Old State House Road in St. Mary’s City.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17. Purchase tickets in advance at https://www.newtowneplayers.org/shakespeare-tickets.html or at the Shop at Farthing’s Ordinary the night of the performance.
