You’re always taking a chance when you follow the latest trends in home decorating. Will your room be timeless? Or, will it look dated as soon as the newest hot trend is over?
One of 2017’s hottest trends, all-white kitchens, appears to be on its way out, at least according to this article from Zillow. White kitchens, writer Cat Overman notes, look fantastic in photos, but in reality, they’re difficult to keep clean.
In fact, Zillow says its data shows that homes with blue kitchens sell for $1,800 more than homes with white kitchens!
Overman highlights five trends she sees coming in 2018, and if you’re planning to sell your house next year, you might want to give them a look. Remember that one homeowner’s beloved trend is another homeowner’s nightmare, so if you’re thinking of jumping on a trend, maybe opt for something less permanent like paint or upholstery.
In other words, we think the statement floor trend below is really cool, but there’s no guarantee your potential buyers will love it as much as you will.
Here are the five trends Zillow is watching:
- Floral prints in upholstery, drapery, and throw pillows
- Statement floors with bold patterns, especially in bathrooms or laundry rooms
- Light wood cabinets with flat fronts
- Warm neutral colors like some reds, caramel browns, and beige
- Matte metal hardware than can help warm up a space
