Calvert Marine Museum Celebrates Sharkfest!

TV’s Shark Week may be over, but the Calvert Marine Museum is still celebrating!

Sharkfest will take place Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum in Solomons. Museum admission applies; members are free.

Visit live sharks and Chesapeake Bay native Atlantic sturgeon featured in the Corbin Pavilion. Participate in hands-on activities throughout the museum, paint a shark mural, do shark crafts, get your face painted ($5 fee), play in the Shark Game Show and win a prize, and take your picture in the jaws of a Megalodon shark. Slide down the jaws of a giant inflated shark sponsored by Tidewater Dental.

070416-jazzfest-01Potomac Jazz and Seafood Festival Brings Hot Music to St. Clement’s Island!

Relax riverside on the museum lawn and enjoy live jazz artists, lots of delicious seafood delicacies, and gorgeous views of St. Clement’s Island at this signature yearly event.

The festival will take place Saturday, July 9, from noon to 8 p.m. at St. Clement’s Island Museum.

Advance ticket sale required for this very popular event. Ticket sales have already begun, and only 1,000 will be sold (no gate sales). Ticket does not include food. Cost is $65 per person and $60 for members of the Friends of St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Museums. Children under 12 are free.

Delicious Food and Drink

Seafood Galore: Crab cakes! Oysters! Shrimp! Rockfish! There’s even a land-lubber menu. Enjoy an array of seafood specialties, grilled and fried platters, ribs, barbecue, salads, sides, desserts and beverages.

There will be a refreshing choice of beverages and desserts. You must be 21 to order beer, wine, or alcohol specialties.

Historic St. Mary’s City Offers “Adults Only” Tour

Shhh – don’t tell the kids! This tour of the Godiah Spray Tobacco Plantation at Historic St. Mary’s City is for adults only!

On Saturday, July 9, patrons age 18 and up can take an after-hours tour of the plantation to learn about subjects of a more “adult” nature. Two tours are available: 5 to 6 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $14 per person for non-members and $12 per person for members. Reservations required.
