The sights and sounds of summer take center stage in Southern Maryland this weekend! Take the whole family to these fun events happening in the region this weekend, July 12-14, 2019.

Leonardtown Square Gets Swinging Friday Night

Put on your dancing shoes for a night of hot swing music!

The Chesapeake Swing Band will perform music for dancing and toe tapping on Friday, July 12, at 6 p.m. on the Leonardtown Square. The concert is presented by the Leonardtown Summer Music Festival and the Potomac Jazz & Seafood Festival. The concert is free.

The evening will celebrate jazz from the 20s to today. There will be a special Roaring 20s dance performance by Ballet Caliente, and St. Mary’s Rod & Classic will present an antique classic car show.

Dress in costume from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond! The best costume for each decade will win a prize.

This concert kicks off the 20th annual Potomac Jazz & Seafood Festival, which takes place Saturday at the St. Clement’s Island Museum. The Maryland State Arts Council will film the event for inclusion in an arts and entertainment film to be screened on Maryland Arts
Day.

Land Trust Celebrates Southern Maryland Nature Fest

Bring the kids for a celebration of nature in Southern Maryland!

The American Chestnut Land Trust presents its SoMd Nature Fest on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the land trust’s Double Oak Farm, which is located at 676 Double Oak Road in Prince Frederick.

This family-friendly day features exhibits from nature organizations from across Southern Maryland, hayrides, live animal exhibits, and kids crafts and games. Linda’s on the Go food truck will be on site, and there
will be a small farmer’s market. Learn more about the beautiful places to
experience nature in Southern Maryland and about the ACLT’s trails, guided
canoe trips, and land conservation activities.

Jazz Festival Heats Up SoMd Waterfront

Don’t miss the 20th annual Potomac Jazz & Seafood Festival this weekend! The event will take place Saturday, July 13, from noon to 9 p.m. at St. Clements Island Museum, 38370 Point Breeze Road in Colton’s Point.

Relax waterside on the museum lawn and enjoy live national jazz artists, lots of delicious seafood, and gorgeous views of the Potomac and St. Clement’s Island. The day’s lineup includes Art Sherrod, Jr.; Brian Simpson
and Paula Atherton; and Mike Phillips.

Tickets are $85 at the door and include parking, museum admission, and an optional boat cruise around St. Clement’s Island during the festival.

On Friday, don’t miss the kickoff concert in Leonardtown featuring the Chesapeake Swing Band! Sunday, return to Leonardtown for a series of jazz-themed activities throughout town including jazz brunches, a jazz dance
class, cocktail party, and more.
