They say it’s spring starting today – can you feel it? Even if the weather isn’t quite screaming spring yet, there’s no doubt that it’s coming. That spring feeling means this weekend is the perfect time to get out and about in Southern Maryland. There’s a lot going on this weekend; here are just three events for March 23-25, 2018.

Historic St. Mary’s City Marks Maryland Day

Maryland’s anniversary is this weekend; how will you celebrate?

Historic St. Mary’s City will host a Maryland Day celebration on Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 18751 Hogaboom Lane in St. Mary’s City.

To celebrate Maryland’s 384th anniversary with ceremony, pageantry, speeches, and free admission to the park’s living history and museum exhibits. Chanel Compton of the Maryland Commission on the African American History and Culture will give a keynote address at 11 a.m. at the Inn at Brome Howard. After the ceremony, a new exhibit title “Struggle for Freedom: African American Life in St. Mary’s City in the 19th and 20th Century” will open.

Taste of Solomons Showcases Local Food and Drink

What’s your favorite place to eat in Solomons?

Revisit old favorites and discover new ones during the annual Taste of Solomons. The event will take place Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the waterfront community.

Restaurants and shops will over fine food and beverage tasting during this one-day food festival. Tickets are $4 each may be purchased at any of the participating businesses. Each ticket may be exchanged for a food or beverage sample. Many restaurants are also participating in a Gift Certificate Prize program, with some of the tickets at each location designated as prize winners. The lucky purchaser will be awarded a gift certificate for future use at the respective restaurant.

The event is sponsored by the Solomons Business Association. Proceeds will benefit the association’s annual July 4th fireworks display.

Hop On Down to the Easter Egg Festival!

Meet the Easter Bunny at the 35th Annual Easter Egg Festival!

The event will take place Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. The egg hunt is hosted by the St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks.

The Easter Egg Festival includes egg hunts for children up to 12 years, photos with the Easter Bunny, live entertainment, free arts and crafts, an egg decorating contest, and face painting. Local vendors will also be on hand with goods and services for sale, and pony rides will be available at an additional cost. Kids will also be able to meet superheroes and participate in a BMX course or tennis demonstration.

Admission is $5 each and includes the egg hunt, a photos with Mr. or Mrs. Bunny, recreational activities and free face painting and crafts. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the festival and the Scott Verbic Memorial Golf Tournament help fund the Recreation and Parks Scholarship Program. The scholarships allow qualified individual applicants the opportunity to participate in a recreation activity at 50% of the registration fee.
