There’s no surer sign of fall in Southern Maryland than the start of county fair season. In just a few weeks, the midways will light the night, local talent will grace the stage, and the fryers will heat up to cook that decadent fair food you’ve been craving since last year.
I love county fair season! There’s so much to enjoy, from the exhibit building showcasing the skill and hard work of our friends and neighbors to the livestock pens where you can get up close and personal with a cow, chicken, pig, or sheep.

Charles County Fair
When: Thursday to Sunday, Sept. 13-16, 2018
Cost: $10 age 11 and up; free age 10 and younger; $25 for a four-day pass. Schoolchildren are admitted free on Friday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

St. Mary’s County Fair

Cost: $5 adults; $1 children age 6 to 12; free for children under 6; season pass: $10 adults, $2 children age 6 to 12.
