Time to shop for the holidays? One of the first places most shoppers go is the mall.
And in Southern Maryland, that mall is the St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf. Open since 1988, the mall is the hub of retail activity along U.S. Route 301. The only shopping mall in the three Southern Maryland counties, St. Charles Towne Center boasts more than 130 stores.
And this time of year, you’ll find that the mall is open late to accommodate busy holiday shoppers. Need to shop at 9 p.m.? No problem! The mall is open until 10 p.m. most days. When it gets closer to Christmas, the mall will remain open until 11 p.m. some nights. (Find complete hours on the mall’s website.)
The mall has six anchor stores: Dick’s Sporting Goods, Macy’s, Macy’s Home Store, JC Penney, Kohl’s, and Sears. In between are a collection of national and regional retailers selling everything you could want for your holiday wish list. The mall also has a long list of fast food and casual restaurants. Even the most dedicated shoppers deserve a break!
St. Charles Towne Center underwent an extensive renovation in 2007-2008. The renovation resulted in a new look for the entrances and a redesigned interior. Bathrooms were expanded to accommodate families, and a kids’ play area was added on the first floor near JC Penney. The food court was renovated as well.
Owned by the Simon Property Group, the mall hosts events throughout the year, but is easily busiest during the holidays. Santa Claus is in residence until Christmas Eve, and a gift wrap station benefits charity and crosses a necessary task off your to-do list. Events are also held at individual stores. For a complete calendar, visit the mall’s website.
Outside the mall, you’ll find additional stores and restaurants as well as the AMC St. Charles Towne Center 9, Waldorf’s only movie theater.
