The arrival of spring means the return of Southern Maryland’s farmer’s markets. If you’re a locavore – someone who loves locally grown and raised food – you’re in luck! All three Southern Maryland counties have regular weekly farmer’s markets. Some will reopen in the next few weeks, and most will open in May.
Here’s a county-by-county guide.
Calvert County
Calvert County Farmers’ Market-Barstow
Location: Calvert County Fairgrounds, 140 Calvert Fair Drive, Barstow
When: Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to noon, May to October
Calvert County Farmers’ Market-Prince Frederick
Location: Calvert Memorial Hospital, 130 Hospital Drive, Lot D, Prince Frederick
When: Tuesdays, 3 to 7 p.m., May to November
Calvert County Farmers’ Market-Solomons
Location: Solomons Riverwalk, north of Solomons Pavilion
When: Thursdays, 3 to 6:30 p.m., May to November
North Beach Friday Night Farmers’ Market
Location: 5th Street and Bay Avenue, North Beach
When: Fridays, 6 to 9 p.m., May to October

Charles County
La Plata Farmers’ Market
Location: County Courthouse/Government Center parking lot, off Washington Avenue and Charles Street, La Plata
When: Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Year round.
Waldorf Farmers’ Market
Location: 10400 O’Donnell Place, Waldorf
When: Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May to November

When: Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in April; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. most days in May; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. most days in June, July, and August; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. most days in September and October; Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in November. Closed Sundays.
