Whether you prefer furry critters, local history, or holiday fun, you’ll find something on the calendar in Southern Maryland! Check out these three events happening in the region this weekend, March 31 to April 2, 2017.

Go Crazy for Otters at the Calvert Marine Museum

The Calvert Marine Museum is crazy for otters!

The museum will host OtterMania on Friday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate its favorite mammals. Dance the Swim with the otter mascots, listen to otter tails, and at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., you can meet the otter keepers. Watch a training session with an aquarist at 3 p.m. to see how the otters are trained.

Museum admission applies; CMM members are free. A $2 donation is requested for face painting.

Want even more otters? Come early for breakfast! Otter Breakfast will take place on Friday, March 31, at 9 a.m. Learn about otter enrichment and their habitat, and go behind the scenes to speak with a keeper and watch a feeding. A continental breakfast will be provided.

Children must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult to participate. Fee is $20 per person, $15 for members and includes museum admission. Email [email protected] to register.

Point Lookout Lighthouse Hosts Open House

Learn more about the Point Lookout Lighthouse at its Open House this Saturday, April 1. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lighthouse is in Point Lookout State Park.

Docents from the Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society will be on hand to answer your questions. There is no charge to enter the lighthouse, but standard park entrance fees do apply. Donations are greatly appreciated; all funds go toward restoring the lighthouse to its 1927 period.
