It’s one thing to search for a rental unit in Southern Maryland as a singleton; you have only your needs and wants to manage as you find a place to rent.

But when you’re looking for a place for your family to rent, you need to take into consideration the needs of your spouse and children, too. It’s a slightly different search, and this list from Zillow Porchlight helps you keep some new factors in mind, including:

Location, Location, Location: Where is the rental in relation to schools, childcare, work, and the places you go regularly? And, where is the rental located within the complex? Is it near the amenities your family will want to use most?

Safety: If you’re looking at an older home, ask about lead paint. You’ll also want to check with your landlord before you do any childproofing that involves attaching something to the unit, like cupboard latches or baby gates.

Space: A one-bedroom apartment might be enough space for you and your sweetheart, but what happens when baby makes three? Can you move to a larger unit within your current complex?

Renting in Southern Maryland with a family isn’t complicated, but it does come with some extra considerations. See Zillow’s entire list here.
