The kids are finally out of school for the summer, and that means summer can officially begin! Check out these fun events in happening in Southern Maryland beginning this weekend, June 16-18, 2017.

Celebrate Junetheenth on Saturday in St. Mary’s County

Bring the family to celebrate Juneteenth!

The Juneteenth Heritage Celebration will take place Saturday, June 17, from noon to 8 p.m. at John G. Lancaster Park, 21550 Willows Road in Lexington Park.

The 7th Annual Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. that morning. The race supports the festival and St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen.

Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. This free family event features live music, children’s entertainment and activities, great food, vendors, community information, and much more.

Walk for a Great Cause at Relay for Life of Calvert County

Raise funds for cancer research and spend the day connecting with others in your community!

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Calvert County will take place Saturday, June 17, from 2 to 11 p.m. at the Calvert County Fairgrounds, 140 Calvert Fair Dr. in Prince Frederick.

Treat Dad to Southern Maryland History on Father’s Day

Where should you take Dad on Father’s Day? How about a trip back in time? Tours are planned at these Southern Maryland museums for Sunday, June 18.

St. Clement’s Island Museum: Dads are free at the museum this Sunday! You’ll learn more about Maryland’s earliest history. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children age 6 to 18, and free for dads and kids age 5 and under. Piney Point Lighthouse Museum: Learn about Southern Maryland’s maritime history at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park in TOWN. Dads are admitted free on Father’s Day! Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum: Take Dad to spend “Sunday Afternoon with the Pattersons” on Father’s Day! Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum hosts its free monthly tour on Sunday, June 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The farm was the country retreat of the Pattersons, and the tour takes you through the family’s home and gardens.
