Newtowne Players Present “Once Upon a Mattress”

It’s chaos in the kingdom!

Due to an unhappy curse, King Sextimus is unable to speak, and his terror-of-a-wife, Queen Aggravain, has taken over control of the kingdom. In an attempt to keep her only son Prince Dauntless single, she has decreed that only the princess who can pass her test may marry her son. Until Dauntless marries, no one else in the kingdom may marry either! Sir Harry volunteers to find a princess, but will she be able to pass the Queen’s impassable test?  Will King Sextimus regain his rightful position as leader of the kingdom, and most importantly will everyone finally be able to marry?

See what happens when the Newtowne Players present the hit Broadway musical “Once Upon a Mattress” this month. The play will take place at Three Notch Theatre, 21744 South Coral Dr. in Lexington Park.

It’s Sharkfest in Calvert County!

Sharks are fascinating creatures, and the Calvert Marine Museum’s Sharkfest is your chance to learn all about them!

Sharkfest will take place Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons. Regular museum admission applies; museum members are free.

Live sharks will be featured in the Corbin Pavilion, along with sturgeon from NRG Energy—The Chalk Point Generating Station. The museum will be full of hands-on opportunities to explore the diversity of sharks and their remarkable history on planet Earth. Learn fascinating ‘sharktoids’, examine evidence of prehistoric sharks, paint a shark mural, make a shark-themed craft, get your face painted ($5 fee), and take your picture in the life-size jaws of a Megalodon shark. Slide down the jaws of a giant inflated shark, sponsored by Tidewater Dental.

Shop the museum store for shark-themed mementos to take home, and enjoy food and drink from Captain Smith’s Seafood and Rita’s Ice.
