Does Staging Work? These Numbers Don’t Lie

If you’re a client of mine, we’ve talked about staging. Perhaps I’ve asked you to declutter, depersonalize, or replace flooring and paint – or all of the above.

Staging is work, and if you’re anxious to get your house on the market, it can seem like a waste of time. But according to new research from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), staging matters, and it can decrease the amount of time your home spends on the market.

In the NAR’s 2017 Home Profile of Home Staging, real estate website Inman.com reports that the association asked buyer’s and seller’s agents about staging and its effectiveness. Thirty-nine percent of seller’s agents said staging a home “greatly” decreases the time a home is on the market.

And, get this: A whopping 77 percent of buyer’s agents said staging helps buyers visualize themselves living in the home.

It gets better. Nearly all buyer’s agents (98 percent) said staging has some effect on whether their clients will make an offer. A well-staged house can make buyers spend 1 to 5 percent more on the home, say 31 percent of buyer’s agents.

What are you waiting for? It’s time to stage that home and get it sold!
