With just a few summer weekends left before school starts, there is still time to get out and enjoy Southern Maryland this weekend! Here are three events happening locally this weekend, Aug. 18-20, 2017.

Catch Shakespeare in the City this Weekend!

If you love Shakespeare and local theater, this weekend is your last weekend to catch the Bard in St. Mary’s City!

In partnership with the Newtowne Players, Historic St. Mary’s City presents “Love’s Labour’s Lost” as part of its annual Shakespeare in the City. The play is tells the story of four friends who swear off love. It’s one of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies!

The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18; Friday, Aug. 18; and Saturday, Aug. 19. The performance takes place on the State House Lawn; please park near The Shop at Farthing’s Ordinary. Food, beverages, and treats will be available for purchase.

Love the Outdoors? Come to the Country Life Festival!

Celebrate everything outdoors at the Country Life Festival – hunting, fishing, camping, and more!

The Country Life Festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20, at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. The festival is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

This family-friendly event includes vendors, entertainment, competitions, giveaways, and more. Admission is $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for kids age 5 to 12. Children under 5 are free.

Sotterley Celebrates with a Barn Bash

What’s better than a party in the barn?

When that party involves beer, boots, and barbecue!

Sotterley Plantation will host Barn Bash – Beer, Boots and BBQ! On Saturday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 9 p.m. Support the plantation and its programs by enjoying craft beer tastings, local barbecue, your favorite classic country music by The County Memories Band, and a Boot Scoot Boogie Contest!

Plus, play yard games and enjoy the plantation’s grounds. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

General admission is $15 in advance and includes admission plus four craft beer tastings and a commemorative pint glass. Tasting tickets are limited, and if they sell out in advance, there will be no tasting tickets available at the door.

Don’t want the tasting? Admission without tasting tickets is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
