School is back in session, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot to do in Southern Maryland! Check out these unique events happening in the area this weekend, Sept. 8-10, 2017

Yoga with Goats? Why Not?

If you’ve never taken yoga before – and even if you have! – this could be your most unique opportunity to learn.

GoatToBeZen Yoga will take place Saturdays in September from 9 to 10 a.m. at Prosperity Acres, 5811 Sunderland Court in Sunderland. Cost is $20 per person.

Each class focuses on breaking down your week with a slow flow that works out the kinks from busy work and home life. And this class adds an extra twist: Goats!

Did you read that right? Yes, you did – this is yoga with goats! Each class lasts one hour: 40 minutes of yoga and 20 minutes of time to interact and take selfies with the goats! Be sure to bring your yoga mat or towel, water, and a fully charged phone!

A couple of notes from class organizers:

  • Goats poo. They can possibly poo on your mat.
  • Goats climb, so there is a possibility of them climbing on you during class.

Classes take place in the sunshine only. If there is a chance of rain during the class, it will be rescheduled for the next day. If you cannot make that date, you will be credited for a weekend that works for your schedule.

Wine Tasting and Auction to Benefit Hospital Foundation

Enjoy wine and local history, all for a great cause!

The Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation will host its 20th annual Autumn Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will take place on the grounds of the historic Port Tobacco Court House, 8430 Commerce St. in Port Tobacco.

More than 30 wines will be available for sampling, and local restaurants will provide selections at dozens of food stations. At sunset, the twinkling lights come on while you enjoy the open bar and peruse silent auction offerings or visit the cigar lounge.

Proceeds from this year’s wine tasting will help fund a new Center for Breast Health to provide hope, support, and care for family, friends, and community members as they cope with breast health issues.
