Fall is the season for fairs and festivals in Southern Maryland! The new season officially arrives on Friday, and you can celebrate at any of these local events happening this weekend, Sept. 22-24, 2017.

St. Mary’s County Fair Kicks Off Thursday!

Visit the animals, take a spin on the midway, or enjoy your favorite deep-fried foods – you can do it all at the St. Mary’s County Fair!

The fair will take place Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 24, at the county fairgrounds in Leonardtown. The fair is open 3 to 10 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children age 6 to 12, and free for children under 6.

Take a Walk to Benefit the Poor on Saturday

This weekend, taking a walk could benefit services for the poor in Charles County!

The Saint Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk/Run will take place Saturday, Sept. 23, at St. Peter’s Church, 3320 St. Peter’s Church Drive in Waldorf. The event begins at 9 a.m.

The walk will take place on the church grounds and is open to all levels of walkers and runners. Participation is free, but walkers are encouraged to donate or raise pledges from sponsors. Proceeds raised at the event will go to support services for the poor in Charles County.

Celebrate Local Waterways at RiverFest

Learn all about caring for Southern Maryland’s waterways and environment – all while having a great time!

The St. Mary’s River Watershed Association will hosts its annual RiverFest on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic St. Mary’s City, 47414 Old State House Road in St. Mary’s City. The event is free.

The event includes environmental exhibits and demonstrations, live music, a militia muster, birds of prey, touch tanks, and other family fun including face painting, pumpkin painting, and more!

Don’t miss the annual wade-in to the river with Sen. Bernie Fowler. Bring your white sneakers and a change of clothes, and wade into the river to see how far you can go and still see your feet! The wade in begins at 1:45 p.m.
