9 Southern Maryland Halloween Events the Whole Family Can Enjoy!

Halloween is coming soon, and seasonal events kick into high gear next weekend. Get those costumes ready and bring the whole family to these fun local Halloween events.

Harvest Halloween Party

Where: Town Hall, La Plata

When: Friday, Oct. 20, 5 to 7 p.m.

Come to the La Plata Town Hall for the annual Harvest Halloween Party! Wear your costume for crafts, snacks, and treats for little ones.

Trick or Treat on the Square

Where: Town Square, Leonardtown

When: Saturday, Oct.21, 3 to 5 p.m.

Fill that candy bag early! Go trick or treating in your costume on the Town Square in Leonardtown, dress your pet for a costume contest, and enjoy crafts and face painting. For more information, call 301-475-9791.

Halloween Family Fun Night

Where: Chesapeake Beach Water Park, Chesapeake Beach

When: Sunday, Oct. 22, 4 to 8 p.m.

Trick or treat, jump on the inflatables, and more at the Halloween Family Fun Night! Presented by Calvert County Parks and Recreation and the Town of Chesapeake Beach, this fun evening includes slime, face painting, balloon animals, and inflatables at the Northeast Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Then, from 5 to 8 p.m., follow the trick or treat trail for treats from local businesses and organizations. Haunted Ship

Where: Historic St. Mary’s City, St. Mary’s City

When: Saturday, Oct. 21, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Trick or treat in Maryland’s first capital city! Wear your costume to trick or treat at the State House and the Maryland Dove at Historic St. Mary’s City. Halloween Spooktacular Concert

Where: Port Tobacco Players Theater, La Plata

When: Saturday, Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 22, 3:30 p.m.

Join The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society for a howling good time at its Halloween Spooktacular! Performances of fun and spooky songs will put you in the mood for ghosts and goblins, from “Monster Mash” and “Purple People Eater” to a medley from “The Addams Family.” Come in costume and march in the costume parade after the performance! Halloween Evening Story Times

Where: Calvert County Library branches

Join the Calvert libraries for fun evenings of Halloween stories and songs for the season. Costumes welcome! Each branch will host the story time at a different time:

  • Prince Frederick Branch, Wednesday, Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m.
  • Twin Beaches Branch (Chesapeake Beach), Thursday, Oct. 26, 6:30 p.m.
  • Fairview Branch (Owings), Thursday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m.

Halloween in the Garden

Where: Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, Dowell

When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stroll the garden in a daytime trick-or-treating parade – now in its 18th year! More than 70 community organizations and businesses will be set up throughout Annmarie Garden to hand out candy and treats to children who come trick or treating. There will be free trick-or-treat bags for every guest, and delicious food vendors will be on site. Admission is $2 per person; parking is free. Proceeds will benefit local charities including the Holiday Food Basket Program and the Annmarie Scholarship Fund. Children’s Costume Halloween Party

Where: American Legion Stallings-Williams Post 206, Chesapeake Beach

When: Sunday, Oct. 29, 1 to 3 p.m.

Drive-Through Haunted Fire House

Where: Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, Mechanicsville

When: Tuesday, Oct. 31, 6 to 9 p.m.
