Buying a Southern Maryland home during the holidays?
You must be crazy!
Or super, super smart.
I’m inclined to think you’re the latter, and here’s why.
If you’re looking to buy in Southern Maryland right now, you’re not going to have a lot of competition from other buyers. Inventory is still low around here, but there are way fewer buyers out there now than there will be next spring and summer. Like you, everyone is busy with holiday travel and parties, so they’ve put home-buying on the back burner.
The weather doesn’t help either. Who wants to roam in and out of homes when it is cold outside? Or, worse, snowing?
You’ll also find that sellers whose homes are on the market this time of year just want to sell and sell fast. In some cases, they’re desperate! You may have more negotiating power than you would in the spring when a seller is getting more offers on his or her home.
A few more reasons to consider buying this time of year, courtesy of the pros at Realtor.com:
- There are tax perks you can take advantage of when you file your taxes in April.
- Want to see how the house really looks? Look at it now. You won’t be distracted by beautiful spring landscaping in the winter. (And you’ll find out right away whether the heat works!)
- Real estate professionals are less busy this time of year. You’ll have better access to agents, inspectors, movers, and the other pros you need to make your purchase run smoothly.
