We’re less than a week from Christmas and New Year’s Day won’t be too far behind! If you need to do business with the three Southern Maryland counties, it’s best to check their closure schedules before you head out.
Here’s a brief list of what’s open and closed for Christmas and New Year’s.
Calvert County
County offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Other services and operations in the county:
- Public schools are closed Dec. 25 through Jan. 1. Classes resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.
- Senior centers are closed Dec. 25 and 26. No Meals on Wheels these days.
- County-run public transportation will close at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, and will reopen with normal operating hours on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
- Calvert Public Library branches are closed Dec. 25 and 26.
- The Edward Hall Aquatic Center is closed Dec. 25.
- County convenience centers and the Appeal landfill will be closed on Dec. 25. Normal hours resume Dec. 26. Convenience centers normally open on Sundays (Barstow, Mt. Hope, and Appeal) will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24.
- The Calvert Marine Museum will close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24, and remain closed on Christmas Day. The museum reopens with normal hours on Dec. 26.
- Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center will be closed Dec. 24 and 25. Garden in Lights resumes on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

Charles County
County offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Other services and operations in the county:
- Public schools are closed Dec. 25 through Jan. 1. Classes resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.
- The Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 25 and 26.
- All indoor pools will be closed Sunday, Dec. 24 and 25. Pools reopen at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
- Charles County Public Library branches are closed Dec. 25 and 26.
- The county landfill and recycling center on Billingsley Road and the recycling center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed Dec. 25. Curbside recycling will be delayed by a day for the week.
- VanGO services will not run on Dec. 25.

In the Town of La Plata, the Town Hall will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Monday trash pickup will be delayed by a day; pickup scheduled for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 will be picked up Dec. 26 and Jan 2. There will be no yard waste pickup on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
On Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, the following county operations will be closed:
- County government offices
- Tri-County Animal Shelter
- VanGO services
- Senior and community centers
- Indoor pools
- Landfill and recycling centers
- Public library branches

St. Mary’s County
County offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25; Tuesday, Dec. 26; and Monday, Jan. 1.
Other services and operations in the county:
- Public schools are closed Dec. 25 through Jan. 1. Classes resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.
- The St. Andrews Landfill and all six county convenience centers will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. They will operate with normal hours on Dec. 24, 26, and 31 and Jan. 2.
- Mary’s Transit System will not operate on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. It will operate with normal hours on Dec. 24, 26, and 31 and Jan. 2.
- Mary’s County Public Library branches will be closed Dec. 24-26. All branches will also be closed on Jan. 1, and the Lexington Park branch will be closed Dec. 31.
- Senior centers will be closed Dec. 25 and 26. There will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries made on these dates.
