Whether you’re looking for live theater or want to check out one of Southern Maryland’s museums, you’ll find lots happening this weekend in the region. Here are three events happening here this weekend, Jan. 26-28, 2018.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” Opens in Lexington Park

See “A Streetcar Named Desire” on stage starting this weekend.

The Newtowne Players will present Tennessee Williams’ classic drama beginning this Friday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. at Three Notch Theatre, 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park.

The play will run until Sunday, Feb. 11. Performances on Thursdays through Saturdays will take place at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees will take place at 3:30 p.m.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1947 and reveals to the very depths the character of Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject—so far as possible—the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely “normal” young husband of the latter, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for military and senior citizens. Due to language and subject matter, this play is not recommended for children. Purchase tickets online at www.newtowneplayers.org or by calling 301-737-5447.
