March in Southern Maryland Begins with Fun Events for Great Causes

Will March come in like a lion or a lamb? The forecast suggests definite mild, lamb-like weather – perfect for getting out and about in Southern Maryland. Check out these three events happening this weekend, March 2-4, 2018. Each benefits a great cause!

HVFD Hosts Annual Spring Dinner

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Spring Dinner on Saturday, March 3, from 1 to 5 p.m. The dinner will take place in the department’s social hall at 24801 Three Notch Road in Hollywood.

Cost is $25 each for adults and $7 each for kids age 4 to 12. Children 3 and younger are free. The menu includes stuffed ham, fried oysters, chicken salad, parsley potatoes, sweet potatoes, cole slaw, green beans, beets, rolls, and coffee and tea. The meal will be served buffet style.

Carryout is available for $25 each. There will also be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle.

It’s Mardi Gras in Calvert County!

Celebrate Mardi Gras around the world!

The United Way of Calvert County will host its 10th Mardi Gras Gala on Saturday, March 3, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, 13470 Dowell Road in Dowell.

You’ll explore the culture, cuisine, and colors that have shaped this world-famous celebration known around the world by many names. The night’s festivities include the crowning of the king and queen, dancing to the music of Funkzilla, gourmet international food, specialty cocktails, table games, street performers, silent auction, raffle, and more!

Proceeds from the event benefit United Way grants for local programs that improve the education, financial stability, health, and basic needs for families in Calvert County.

Shamrock Shuffle Walk/Run Supports Scholarships

It’s time to break out your leprechaun style!

The Shamrock Shuffle 5K Walk/Run will take place Sunday, March 4, at Dunkirk District Park, 10750 Southern Maryland Boulevard in Dunkirk. Check-in begins at 1 p.m.; the event begins at 2 p.m.

This fun, noncompetitive run/walk benefits the CCPR Therman Gray Memorial Scholarship fund for needy families in Calvert County and the Cardinal Hickey Academy. Come dressed in your best St. Patrick’s Day gear!
