Happy Thanksgiving! Ready to jump feet first into the holidays? Southern Maryland’s calendar is full of fun winter and holiday events. Here are just three of the festive events happening in the region this weekend, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2019.

Experience Winter in Early Maryland

What was winter like for Maryland’s earliest settlers?

Find out this weekend at Historic St. Mary’s City’s “Hearth and Home in Early Maryland” program. The event will take place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, which is located at 18751 Hogaboom Lane in St. Mary’s City.

You’ll explore 17th-century foodways, and celebrate the end of the growing season. Discover what it took to weather the winter before
refrigerators, electric stoves, and grocery stores.

Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for youth, and free for children age 5 and younger and Friends members. Bring a canned good for the Southern Maryland Food Bank and save $1 on admission.

Newtowne Players Present “A Seussified Christmas Carol”

What if Dr. Seuss had gotten his hands on the classic Dickens tale, “A Christmas Carol?”

Find out when The Newtowne Players present “A Seussified Christmas Carol”! The play will be performed on several dates from Friday, Nov. 15, through Sunday, Dec. 16, at The Newtowne Players, 21744 S. Coral Dr. in
Lexington Park.

General admission tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, and $10 for children under 12. This show is suitable for the whole family!

“A Seussified Christmas Carol” is a whimsical reinvention of Dickens’ most beloved Christmas story in wacky rhymed couplets. With zoot-fruited
juices and binka bird geese, from Bed-Headed Fred to Timmy Loo Hoo, this tale of glorious holiday cheer is like something Dr. Seuss might have come up with—if he ever had his way with the story.
