Special Events Honor Veterans in Southern Maryland

People around the world will pause this weekend to honor those who served in the military, both living and dead. Where can you celebrate Veteran’s Day in Southern Maryland? Check out these patriotic events that honor our nation’s veterans.

Find Resources for Veterans in St. Mary’s County

The third annual Veterans Resource Day will take place
Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, 44219 Airport Road in California. The event is free and sponsored by the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services.

This year, there will be a Q&A session centered about
veterans’ affairs, informational workshops, displays by local veteran support organizations, and peer counseling. The Pharmacy at PJ Bean will be on-site offering flu shots, co-pay free. Please bring your insurance card to take advantage of this offer. Tricare will be accepted as an insurance provider.

The question-and-answer panel will be held from 9:30 to 11
a.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel members in addition to learning about changes in programs state and country-wide.

Mission Barbecue will provide lunch at noon.

A representative from the DC VA Medical Center’s Caregiver
Support Program will host a workshop focused on caregiver resources and programs for individuals caring for veterans from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The Brain Injury Institute of Maryland will lead a workshop about traumatic brain injuries and PTSD from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Senior Centers Mark Veteran’s Day

Gather with friends and fellow veterans at St. Mary’s County
senior activity centers for Veterans’ Day tributes.

Loffler Senior Activity Center: The Veterans Circle Celebration will take place Friday, Nov. 9, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Loffler Senior Activity Center, 21905 Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills. Veterans should wear their ribbons and uniforms, if they wish! Breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m., and the opening ceremony
is at 10 a.m. Cost is $4 for civilians and free for veterans and active duty service members. Advance tickets are required for everyone. Call 301-475-4200 extension *1658 for more information.

Northern Senior Activity Center: The Salute to Service Veteran’s Event will take place Friday, Nov. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Northern Senior Activity Center, 29655 Charlotte Hall Road in Charlotte Hall. Enjoy a hearty lunch and entertainment by the Bushmill Band! There will also be door prizes and raffles.

Calvert WWI Vets Honored with Brass Quintet Performance

The Naval Academy Brass Quintet will play to honor Calvert
County veterans on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. The performance will take place at the Calvert Public Library’s Prince Frederick Branch, 850 Costley Way in Prince Frederick.

This concert commemorates the 100th anniversary

Leonardtown Veteran’s Day Parade

Did you know Leonardtown’s Veteran’s Day Parade is one of the largest in Maryland? The parade steps off on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. A memorial wreath-laying ceremony follows. For more information, visit https://leonardtown.somd.com/.

American Legion Plans Ceremony in Chesapeake Beach

Bells will ring at 11 a.m. in Chesapeake Beach on Sunday,
Nov. 11, to mark Veteran’s Day in Chesapeake Beach. A ceremony, hosted by the American Legion Stallings Williams Post 206, will begin at 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Park, which is located at the intersection of Routes 260 and 261 in Chesapeake Beach. Following the ceremony, visit the Legion for its Veteran’s Day Open House. The open house begins at 2 p.m. at 3330 Chesapeake Beach Road in Chesapeake Beach. Open to the public and Legion members.

Chesapeake Brewing Hosts Veteran’s Day Celebration

Celebrate the service and honor the sacrifice of those who
served at Chesapeake Brewing Co. in Annapolis! The celebration is Sunday, Nov. 11, from noon to 5 p.m. at the veteran-owned brewery, which is located at 114 West St. in Annapolis. All midshipmen, sponsors, veterans, and those currently serving are invited!

Navy ham and bean soup and a slider bar will be served, and
