Spring Events Dot the Calendar in Southern Maryland This Weekend, May 3-5, 2019

A brand-new month begins this week, and the Southern Maryland calendar is full of fun spring events for the whole family to ring in the month of May! Check out just three of the events happening here this weekend, May 3-5, 2019.

Spring Festival in Leonardtown This Weekend

Spring is in the air! Catch it all weekend at the 26th Annual Southern Maryland Spring Festival!

This family event takes place Thursday, May 2, through Sunday, May 5. The festival is open:

  • Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. (carnival only)
  • Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., carnival from 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., carnival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., carnival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Enjoy rides, games, entertainment, arts and crafts, silent auction, yard sale, plant sale, and more! Great food vendors will also be on site.

Admission is free on Thursday. Admission on all other days is $6 for adults, $3 for kids age 6-12, and free for kids younger than 6. Bring a non-perishable canned food item per person and get $1 off admission!

Ride bracelets are $25 on Thursday and Saturday. Individual carnival
tickets are $1 each for 40 for $35.

Proceeds from the festival benefit St. Mary’s Hospice, H.O.P.E., Care Net, Southern Maryland Food Bank, Patuxent Habitat for Humanity, and Catholic Charities.

Historic St. Mary’s City Celebrates May Day

Celebrate the arrival of spring – colonial style!

Historic St. Mary’s City celebrates May Day on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event takes place at the museum, which is located at 47414 Old State House Road in St. Mary’s City.

Take part in a Maypole dance, play games, and make a craft to take home. Cost is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for youth, and free for kids age 5 and younger and Friends members.

Sail Away at the Solomons Maritime Festival

Celebrate Southern Maryland traditions in Solomons!

The Solomons Maritime Festival will take place Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road South in Solomons. The festival is free.

You’ll find something for every member of the family! Events include the Antique Boat and Engine Show, Chesapeake Bay retriever demonstrations, music, carving, crafts, cooking demonstrations, and boat rides. Activities for kids include toy boat building.
