Summer officially begins on Friday, and we are so ready for it! The Southern Maryland calendar is hopping with lots of fun things to do this weekend. Here are just three of the things happening in the region this weekend, June 21-23, 2019.

Fairy Trail Opens in Accokeek

The Summer Solstice is a magical day for the fairies, so it’s the perfect day to open a new fairy trail in Southern Maryland!

The Piscataway Park Fairy Trail will celebrate its Grand Opening on Friday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the park, which is located at 3400 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek.

Your admission includes a fairy trail map, live music, magical crafts, and fairy trail experts to answer your questions along the way. Cost is $5 general admission or $10 for the VIF (Very Important Fairy!) experience.

History and Beer Meet at Annual BeerFest

Enjoy delicious local beer in the shadow of historic State House at Historic St. Mary’s City!

The museum will host its annual BeerFest on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 6 p.m. The event will take place on the State House Lawn, 47418 Old State House Road in St. Mary’s City.

The day’s activities include music by local bands, the Van Sweringen’s Ordinary exhibit (one of the first taverns in the colony), and the popular beer- and cider-making demonstrations. Visitors can sample local cuisine, taste a variety of regional craft brews, and shop from local craft vendors.

Cost is $25 for tasters and $10 for designated drivers and youth age 15 to 20. Kids younger than 15 are free. Proceeds from BeerFest support education and research efforts at the HSMC Museum.

Muddy Mayhem Takes Over Annmarie Garden

Did you know Sunday is International Mud Day?

Celebrate in dirty, muddy style at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center’s 5th Annual Mud Day! The event will take place Sunday, June 23, from noon to 4 p.m. at Annmarie Garden, which is located at 13740
Dowell Road in Solomons.

Mud Day is an afternoon of family-friendly muddy fun! Explore squishy art projects, play in the mud kitchen, create a terrarium, paint with mud, and cavort in the giant mud pit!

Snack vendors will be on site. Rinse-off stations will be available, but a chance of clothes is recommended or you’ll have a muddy ride home!

Cost is $5 for non-members. Annmarie members and kids age 1 and younger are free. Mud Day is a rain or shine event. No smoking, and pets are not allowed.
