It’s a new month, and there’s a lot going on in Southern Maryland. Here are three events for this weekend, Nov. 4-6. 2016.

If you love science, technology, engineering, and math, the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds is the place to be this Saturday!

The second annual St. Mary’s County Public Schools’ STEM Festival and Expo will take place Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown.

Explore hands-on STEM and STEAM centered activities for children of all ages. Make spaghetti towers, play with robots, speak with community partners, and even make your own ice-cream. Learn about Next Generation Science Standards. Get more information about St. Mary’s County Public Schools’ STEM Academy program. This is a family-friendly, community event that is free to the public. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

La Plata Salutes Veterans with Annual Parade

Honor America’s veterans at the annual La Plata Veteran’s Day Parade!

This year’s parade will take place Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. in downtown La Plata. The parade begins at the courthouse on Charles Street. Bring the kids and enjoy an old-fashioned, hometown parade!

Jefferson Patterson Park Celebrates American Indian History and Culture

American Indians have made – and continue to make – lasting contributions to the social, political, technological, and cultural fabric of the nation.

And on Saturday, Nov. 5, the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum will honor American Indian history and culture at its annual American Indian Heritage Day. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The day’s activities include storytelling, music, dance, arts and crafts, archery, food, merchandise and more. All activities will take place in the museum’s re-created Indian Village. In the event of rain, activities will move to the park pavilion.
