The last weekend in April is full of fun in Southern Maryland! Check out just three of the events happening in the region this weekend, April 27-29, 2018.

STEM-ING 2018 Introduces Girls to STEM Careers

Do you know a girl who is interested in a career in a STEM field?

NAWCAD S&E, in partnership with The Patuxent Partnership and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, will host STEM-ING (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Inspiring the Next Generation) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus.

This one-day event is designed to introduce Southern Maryland middle school girls to STEM fields and associated careers. During the day, as many as 150 students will hear from positive role models in the STEM industry and academia and have the opportunity to choose from fun STEM workshops.

This is STEM-ING’s sixth year; so far, more than 450 girls have been inspired by the world of STEM!

Forrest Center Hosts Annual Classic Car Show

Classic cars will roar into the parking lot of the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center this weekend for the school’s annual car show fundraiser!

The Second Annual Spring Classic Car Show will take place Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Forrest Center, 24005 Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown. Vehicles entered into the event may begin arriving at 7 a.m.; judging will begin at 9 a.m. Awards will be given at 1 p.m.

The car show is open to the public and free to spectators.

Cost to enter a car or motorcycle is $20. Vendor spaces are $30. To participate, register online in advance at http://schools.smcps.org/tech/. Proceeds from the show will help defray costs of participation in the SkillsUSA national competition. The SkillsUSA Championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation.

Sotterley Plantation Hosts Annual Plant Sale

Who’s ready to plant?

Sotterley Plantation will host is annual plant sale this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29. The sale is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

This is the 20th year of the Sotterley Garden Guild’s plant sale. The organization will also host a community plant exchange. Bring one of your own plants to trade for other annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs, trees, bulbs, and seeds!
