Family fun tops the calendar in Southern Maryland this weekend! Check out these events happening in the region this weekend, May 17-19, 2019.

SMAWL Pet Fair is All About the Animals!

People and pets will love the SMAWL Pet Fair!

The St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL) invites owners and their leashed pets to a day all about pets! The Pet Fair will take place Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for kids younger than 5.

Meet local animal businesses like groomers, veterinarians, and pet product vendors; learn about exciting and interesting pets such as lizards and hedgehogs; and talk with local wildlife rehabilitators. Shockwave Disc Dogs will perform, and a search-and-rescue dog organization with give a
demonstration.

Walk the Relay for Life of Charles County

Lace up your walking shoes for a great cause in Charles County this weekend!

The Relay for Life of Charles County will take place Saturday, May 18, from 4 to 11:30 p.m. at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata.

More than 40 teams will be talking to raise money and awareness in the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. There will be food, craft vendors, face painting, and other activities. Entertainment will be provided by Jesse James Hanbury, John Howard, Rockin’ Elvis, Cowboy Crossing, and Four of a Kind.

A survivors’ reception will take place at 2 p.m.

Dance and Play at Breezy Point’s Annual Blast-Off

Welcome spring with a bang!

The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation invites you to the annual Breezy Point Beach Blast-Off event on Saturday, May 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. The event takes place at Breezy Point Beach, 5300 Breezy Point Road in Chesapeake Beach.

This free, all-ages event features dancing to live music and the chance to face off against friends in laser tag. There will also be contests, face painting, food for purchase, a big bonfire, and fireworks to end the night.
