Fort Washington is named for the fort within its borders. Located on the Potomac River, Fort Washington was the only fort protecting Washington, DC, during the War of 1812. Today, the fort is part of the National Park Service?s Fort Washington Park. Fort Washington is an unincorporated area of Prince George?s County, and it borders Washington, DC. Comedian Martin Lawrence went to high school here, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney was born here.
