The unofficial end of summer doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop! Here are just three of the great events happening in Southern Maryland this weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, 2019.
Break Out of the Escape Farm
Can you escape the farm before it’s too late?
If you want to do an escape room but you’re a bit claustrophobic, you’ll want to be in Accokeek this weekend! The National Colonial Farm is hosting an Escape Farm event on Friday, Aug. 30, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. The farm is located at 3400 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek.
The event challenges participants investigate the National Colonial Farm’s historic houses and gardens to uncover clues and solve historical puzzles. Will you be able to repair your broken time machine before time runs out?
Cost is $25 per person; groups may have up to 10 people. You must book at least 24 hours in advance.

Enjoy Jousting at Annual Tournament
See Maryland’s state sport in action this weekend!
The 153rd Calvert County Jousting Tournament will take place Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m at Christ Church, 3100 Broomes Island Road in Port Republic.
This event features the traditional equestrian sport of ring jousting, which is the spearing of rings while riding on a running horse. The competition is broken down into four classes based on skill only. Men and
women, as well as adults and children, compete against each other. Ring
jousting has been active in Maryland for more than a century and a half,
ultimately becoming Maryland’s official state sport in 1962.
During the tournament, you can also visit the church’s 19th
century one-room school, shop the bazaar, or enjoy an organ concert. Enjoy a family-style dinner of deviled crab, baked ham, fried chicken, sides, dessert, and drinks. The children’s corner features pony rides, face painting, and more.
