Spring has Sprung in Southern Maryland! Three Events for this Weekend, April 7-9, 2017

A new month and a new season mean it’s time to get out and about in Southern Maryland! Check out these three events happening in the region this weekend, April 7-9, 2017.

Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup Seeks Volunteers

Help improve Charles County’s waterways and combat litter by volunteering in a watershed cleanup! The 29th Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup is happening now.

Volunteer opportunities range from collecting litter to leading and organizing a cleanup site. Charles County has nearly two dozen established sites and is always interested in welcoming new sites to this program.

There are several locations in need of volunteers this weekend and in the coming weeks:

  • Chapel Point State Park: Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to Noon
  • Cobb Island: Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mattingly Park: Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Nanjemoy: Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to Noon
  • Riverside: Saturday, April 8, 8:30 a.m. to Noon
  • Mallows Bay: Saturday, May 6, 8 a.m. to Noon
  • Chapman State Park: Sunday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to new shoreline sites, community and adopt-a-road groups are also encouraged to participate. This is an excellent opportunity for students and scouts to earn community service hours!

Cleanup events are held rain or shine.

For more information, call the Department of Public Works Environmental Resources Division at 301-932-3599 or visit www.PotomacCleanup.org.

The Potomac River Watershed Cleanup event is made possible with the support of the Charles County Board of Commissioners.
