Festivals and Fairs Mark the Start of May in Southern Maryland, May 5-7, 2017

Spring is in full swing in Southern Maryland now that it’s May! You’ll enjoy all the region has to offer during the spring at these three festivals happening this weekend, May 5-7, 2017.

Post Tobacco Hosts Annual Market Day

Enjoy local history and handmade items at the 8th Annual Market Day at the Port Tobacco Courthouse! The event will take place Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the courthouse, which is located on Chapel Point Road in Port Tobacco.

The event showcases local artists and vendors selling antiques, jewelry, crafts, fresh produce, and more. The Charles County Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale during the market. Hungry? Food, baked goods, and drinks will be available for purchase. The Port Tobacco Pickers will provide live entertainment.

You can also learn more about Southern Maryland’s history by touring the courthouse, Stagg Hall, Burch House, and the Port Tobacco One-Room School House.

Admission is free. The rain date is Saturday, May 20.

Celebrate May Day at Historic St. Mary’s City

Mark the arrival of spring – colonial style!

Historic St. Mary’s City will host a May Day celebration on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum in St. Mary’s City.

Cost is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for youth, and free for children age 5 and younger and Friends members.

Take part in a Maypole dance, play games, see what local vendors have to offer, and make a craft to take home.

Find Antiques and Collectibles at Annmarie Garden this Weekend!

It’s back! Head to Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center for a fabulous picker’s weekend at the Annmarie Antique & Flea Faire. The event will take place Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $3 for adults. Kids age 11 and younger are free.

More than 100 indoor and outdoor booths will feature antiques and collectibles, vintage and upcycled furniture, clothing, jewelry, flea finds, vintage home and garden, and more. The Faire will include demos and talks highlighting the hottest trends in upcycling and repurposing.

Think you have something valuable? The public is invited to bring up to three small items for the appraisal fair, which will take place both days from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
