Let’s face it: Lots of us can’t get going in the morning without a cup of hot coffee. In Southern Maryland, we’re lucky to have several locally owned coffee shops serving up fresh joe each morning. Some carry pastries, meals, and other treats, while others roast their own beans for a truly one-of-a-kind cup.

Check out these nine coffee shops in the region, and the next time you’re craving a cup of coffee, drink local!

The Beanery Café and Bakery, California

Find breakfast, lunch, and coffee at this newer café in California. You’ll drool over the pictures of pastries on the shop’s Facebook page before you head in to try one.

BTB Coffee Bar, Leonardtown

Get breakfast and lunch during the day – or a cocktail in the evening! – at this relaxed coffee shop and speakeasy in Leonardtown. The shop’s honor system lets “regulars” pay and go for their coffee without waiting in line.

Cool Beanz, Charlotte Hall

Conveniently located in Charlotte Hall on the northbound side of Maryland Route 5, Cool Beanz has been serving coffee and sandwiches since 2013. The menu includes hot and cold coffee drinks, smoothies, baked goods, and lunch items. The coffee shop is adjacent to one of Southern Maryland’s commuter bus stops.

Mad Moon Café & Lounge, California

Made locally is a big deal at this California café. The coffee is roasted in Virginia in small batches, and the menu includes housemade treats and meals made with as many in-house ingredients as the café can find. The café also hosts live music and consigns local made arts and crafts.

St. Inie’s Coffee, Lexington Park

The coffee beans couldn’t be any fresher at St. Inie’s. All of the beans the shop uses – both for drinks in store and to buy and take home – was roasted in the last 30 days, some in the last seven. The shop offers quiet places to read, a place for families to gather, and used books for sale on the shelves.

Sweet Sue’s Bakseshop and Coffee Bar, North Beach

Sweet Sue’s is famous for their eclairs, but once you step inside, you won’t want to stop there! The bakeshop serves up freshly baked goods and breakfast and lunch items. Relax with a treat and a cup of coffee while enjoying the shop’s amazing view of the Chesapeake Bay.
