It’s not a cliché: Kitchens sell houses. And sometimes, the condition of a kitchen can send potential buyers running away from your Southern Maryland home.
Luckily, the folks at Southern Living magazine have outlined five concerns that potential home buyers do not want to see in a kitchen. Do you recognize your kitchen in these descriptions? If so, it’s time to do a little work before you put your Southern Maryland home on the market.
Cleanliness: Sure, your kitchen will be clean before you show it, but did you remember to clean up those pesky food stains on your stove? Have you cleaned inside appliances and cabinets? Buyers are going to look, so make these areas spotless — hiring a pro if you need to.
Bad remodeling work: Buyers go through your home with eagle eyes, and if they spot shoddy workmanship in your kitchen, they’re going to assume there’s more of the same throughout your home. Do simple projects like new hardware, a new faucet, or new cabinet paint if you need a quick refresh for your kitchen, Southern Living suggests.
Clutter: Your kitchen counter organization makes sense to you, but Southern Living points out that it just looks like clutter and mess to anyone who comes to tour your home. Clear the counters, and while you’re at it, declutter the front of the refrigerator and any bulletin boards or message centers in your kitchen. Remove calendars and others papers that have identifying or personal information on them.
What are Southern Living’s last two tips for the kitchen? They involve pets and pests, and you can read all about them here.
