When you or someone you love is facing a terminal illness, you might not know where to go for help, and you probably have more questions than answers.

If you’re not sure where to turn, the hospice organizations in all three Southern Maryland counties are there to help. Hospice provides end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and offers personalized medical services like pain and symptom management. Most hospices also offer support to family members through support groups, counseling, camps for grieving children, and resources.

Hospice services can be given at home, at care facilities like nursing homes, or in hospice houses; each Southern Maryland hospice has its own. These houses are comfortable care centers with private patient rooms, kitchens, and gathering areas so that families and patients feel at home while under the care of hospice.

These organizations are not-for-profit and rely on volunteer help to provide some of their services including sitting with and reading to patients, offering transportation or help around the house, working with families, or performing administrative tasks. All accept donations and host fundraisers to support their work.

Locally, hospice organizations have been serving the patients and families of Southern Maryland for decades. Learn more about the hospice in your county.
