Spring is in Full Swing! Check Out These Southern Maryland Events this Weekend, May 18-20, 2018

The community calendar in Southern Maryland is buzzing with great events! Here are just three you might want to check out in the region this weekend, May 18-20, 2018.

COSMIC Symphony Performs Porgy and Bess

The COSMIC Symphony wraps up its current season with “Porgy and Bess: A Concert of Songs” this weekend. The concert stars bass-baritone Kevin Short and soprano Marsha Thompson and features the Carter Legacy Singers.

Concerts will take place Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at Patuxent Presbyterian Church, 23421 Kingston Creek Road in California; and Sunday, May 20, at 5 p.m. at the College of Southern Maryland’s Prince Frederick Campus.

Tickets are $12 each or $10 for seniors and military. Family tickets are $30.

Shop Local at the Coastal Arts Market

Where can you find great locally made gifts and unique items?

At the monthly Coastal Arts Market!

The next market is Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Leonardtown Wharf Park, 22510 Washington St. in Leonardtown. The market takes place every third Saturday from April through September and on the second Saturday in October.

Everything sold at the market is made locally! Browse the booths and enjoy the great views at the Leonardtown Wharf. Kids will love the nearby playground while you shop!

Party with the Pets at SMAWL’s Annual Pet Fair

Come wag your tail at the Pet Fair!

The St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL) will host its annual Pet Fair event on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. This fun-filled day will celebrate pets with exhibits, demonstrations, and vendors.

Admission to the family-friendly event is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for kids younger than 5.
