Kitchens sell houses. It’s a fact. As a buyer, you want a house with a kitchen that needs little or no work. As a seller, you want buyers to be so wowed by your kitchen that they make an offer right away.

But making over a kitchen is expensive, and you just might not have the budget to do it as a buyer or a seller. Luckily, Realty Times has outlined five easy and inexpensive upgrades you can do in the kitchen that will make it feel like brand new.

The trick? Focus on small details like décor, fixtures, and finishes rather than major projects like rearranging the room.

My favorite tip is to paint the cabinets. It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to modernize cabinets that might otherwise feel dark and dated! This is a project that you can do yourself with time and patience, or you can pay a professional to do it for you. In any case, I think you’ll be amazed at the impact this one change can have on your kitchen.

My second-favorite tip also involves the cabinets, and it’s a super inexpensive one: Change the hardware. Installing new drawer pulls and cabinet handles can update a kitchen like you wouldn’t believe. Realty Times points out that changing cabinet hardware is a great way to participate in a trend; when the trend goes out of style, just change your hardware again!
