Stand in the light bulb aisle of your favorite home improvement store here in Southern Maryland, and we date you not to feel overwhelmed. Look at all the options you have for LED lights! Warm, cool, neutral … and all those numbers. If all you want to do is buy a light for your bedroom, where do you start?

Luckily, the home décor experts at Houzz have broken down the process of choosing the right light bulb for various purposes in your home. It all starts by asking yourself these questions:

  • When are you home the most?
  • When do you use your lights the most?
  • What colors are in your décor and furniture?
  • What style is your home?
  • Do you use dimmers?

Writer David Warfel walks you through these questions and offers suggestions on whether you need warm, cool, or neutral lights for various situations, home types, and décor colors. What is “cool” light versus “warm” light? It all has to do with how the bulb mimics the sun, Warfel writes. Cool lights are most like the brightest midday sun; warm light is more amber like the sunset. Neutral falls somewhere in the middle.
